The Future of Art: High School Exhibit

Following a 28 year tradition, the Alliance for the Arts and the Lee Arts Educators Association (LAEA) have partnered together to present and feature artwork from area schools. This year, the annual exhibition and award ceremony, The Future of Art, has gone digital due to impact of COVID-19. The show features artwork from thirteen area high schools and hundreds of works in a variety of mediums.

Light Projection Mural

As a newly developed installation space and concept, the Light Projection Mural aims to increase awareness of visual arts and artists in our community through an immersive light mural experience. This project is an unconventional outdoor exhibition using projection artworks visible to pedestrian and vehicle traffic along McGregor Boulevard.

Opportunities Around Southwest Florida & Beyond

Discover the best art galleries and enjoy live demonstrations the first Friday of the the month! Artist will set-up between 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and will be open from 6pm to 10 p.m.

The Fort Myers Mural Society is issuing a Call to Artists for the creation and presentation of a proposal and associated rendering sketch for a new mural project, “Buck’s Backyard.

SCOPE: The project consists of 17 concrete wall sections 8’x18′. Photographs of the wall and individual panels are available on request.

CRITERIA:    The murals must represent the above theme. If submitting as an artist team, panels may be painted by individual team members, but the 17 panels must present a cohesive, unified theme and style. The mural can be any art style, but the mural must be in color.                                             .

Location of mural: 2701 Dr Martin Luther King Jr.  Blvd, Fort Myers, FL. Corner of Cranford and MLK,  Downtown Fort Myers.

Rendering SKETCH: The rendering sketch can be done in any medium. The artist/artist team needs to provide a visual description of the proposed colors, scheme and photos of other completed murals or be available to show a portfolio of other works of art.

Originality: Work must be original and completed solely by the artist or artist team. No copy of other artist’s work is acceptable. Any copied material found will be returned and the entry disqualified.

Compensation:  The top three finalists will be paid $500.00 for their design/rendering sketch. The winning entry will be paid an additional design fee of $1,000.00. The winning artist/artist team will be paid $1,000.00 per panel, as each panel is completed. Paint will be provided by the Fort Myers Mural Society.

PUBLICITY, MARKETING & PROMOTIONBy virtue of the nature of this project and the historical aspects of the site, the winning design, murals and muralists will be heavily promoted locally, regionally and nationally. Toward this end, artist bios and statements will be procured from the winning artist/artist team.

ENTRY PROCEDURE:  All entries must include rendering, sketch or concept plus visual representation of the artist’s prior works via email. If submitting as a team, please provide samples of each artist’s prior work or a website where representative work can be viewed.

INSURANCE OR HOLD HARMLESS:  Awarded artists must be willing to sign a hold harmless declaration or provide liability insurance information.

DEADLINERenderings and entry forms/materials are due by 5:00 p.m. EST, March  31, 2020. All submissions are to be submitted electronically: fortmyersmuralsociety@gmail.com .

ANNOUNCEMENT: Submissions will be reviewed and project award will be announced on April 27th, 2020.
